Carers Week

Essex Carers Support is here all year to support people with a caring role. Carers Week is an opportunity to show support for the millions of people who have caring responsibilities for a friend of family member across the UK.  In Essex there are an estimated 145,000 people who have caring responsibilities.

During this week, more than any other, we want communities in Essex and across the UK to come together to recognise the huge contribution that unpaid carers make to families and in our communities.

With this spotlight on carers and caring, Essex Carers Support want to reach people who don’t think of themselves as carers, even though they might have a substantial caring role, and help them to access much needed support.

We are asking services - like GPs, Hospitals and Pharmacies, care services and employers to identify people who have a caring role for a friend or a family member and think about what they can do to better support them by offering understanding and information about the support that is on offer.

For Health Services

Carers are a key partner, alongside the health service, in managing the needs of the people they look after. That’s not all: carers also form a hugely significant group of patients who need support to look after their own health.

For more information about how health services like GP’s, Hospitals and Pharmacies can better support carers take a look at this Carers Week factsheet:

For Care Services

Care and support services are often at the heart of carers' lives and ideally placed to connect them with support and advice. There are many simple actions that care and support providers can take to support carers.  Take a look here for some ideas of how you can help:

For Employers

Carers should be able to work in an environment that supports them and recognises their role as a Carer. This can be achieved through formal policies and procedures, as well as supportive informal arrangements, with the help and understanding of colleagues and managers.
