We love it when carers get back to tell us about the impact that reaching out to us has had. Joan (not her real name) wrote this short blog about what the support has meant to her.
“I am very satisfied with the support I have received. As a result of this we applied for attendance allowance for Mum, and we have thought through our ‘emergency plan’.
I used my Time for You Wellbeing Grant on an eight week Jewellery Making beginners course. This has had a massive positive impact on my wellbeing as I have learned something new, met new friends and had something to look forward to on a weekly basis that gives me an escape.
It has also had a positive impact on my Mum (who I care for) giving us something new and positive to talk about. She seems to very much enjoy looking at what I have made and talking about how I have made it.
This is something I would never have done myself. I have enjoyed it so much I have signed up to complete the Level 2 course, along with others I have met in the class!”
This is a really positive initiative because learning new skills while also building friendships can make a huge difference for carers who often feel isolated in their roles, and having opportunities like this helps improve both confidence and wellbeing over time. It also shows how organisations like Essex Carers Support play an important role in providing guidance, emotional support, and chances to connect with others in similar situations, which is something many carers really need but might not always seek out .
